| Acne is a genetic disorder of the skin. More specifically it is a disorder within the hair follicle. The follicle produces more dead skin cells than it can slough off. These dead skin cells combine with oil (sebum) in the follicle to create a "plug" (blackhead, comedone). This "plug" traps bacteria also known as P. Bacteria deep within the follicle which flourishes in a non-oxygenated environment.
